Last week the Mauritius 2012 budget was released by Minister Xavier Luc Duval recently in parliament in Port Louis.
Below is the short section of his speech relating tourism ! Check it out and let us know your thoughts, comments or questions below or on our Facebook page !
A whole load of rupees has been allocated to promoting a “pristine environment” by funding a program with the Tourism Board for “cleaning and embellishing” of the islands beaches and public areas. The MSPCA has also received funding to aid in the control of stray dogs.
Minister Luc Duval only very briefly commented on the islands “visibility” saying that they will intensify (visibility we assume) existing markets and fully exploit new markets.

Editors comments : Personal experience in Mauritius has never left me feeling that i was continually seeing stray dogs – so i wouldn’t have thought this would have attracted a lot of attention in parliament.
The island has never struck me as being unclean either, although I acknowledge the need for this to be a priority for the island, i am again unsure that it needed to be one of three initiatives mentioned by the Minister.
In regards to the islands visibility – that is an ongoing concern for the islands tourism sectors, which contributes to about 11% of the GDP, as well as foreign tour operators to the island.
