Mauritian Cuisine showcased by MasterChef UK 2012 Winner Shelina Permalloo @hungrymauritian

Mauritius has a perfect oppurtunity to grab the UK media spotlight and prolong the life and buzz around British Mauritian, Shelina Permalloo winning MasterChef UK 2012.

Mauritian/Creole cuisine is a wonderful fusion of flavours, spices and cultures – and has yet to be taken seriously on a world stage. Something that could soon change with the success of @hungrymauritian

Shelina won the final with three dishes – an octopus starter, a mutton curry and a dessert of mango cannelloni filled with lime curd – all distinctly Indian Ocean, Mauritian dishes.

A Mauritian born in the UK, Shelina has stated a desire to open a Mauritian restaurant in the future. We wish her the best of luck and look forward to seeing some of our islands amazing dishes, with Shelina’s personal touches reaching a world wide audience and the acclaim they deserve.

Shelina can be contacted on Twitter @hungrymauritian or Facebook. she also has her own website with a full page on Mauritius. If you use Twitter or Facebook – send her a note of congratulations ! She will reply !

We have searched high and low for some video – but the BBC is pretty tight with their content. All YouTube videos of the show have since been removed – although the indexing hasn’t and they appear in search.
